Khaidian. (Kay. Dee. An)
Fusing the poly-rhythmic technicality of ‘Djent’, with haunting Trance-like electronica, filthy Dubstep drops, and a soaring, soulful vocal style, Khaidian are one of the few bands in the UK (if not the world) bringing something truly unique to the alternative/heavy music scene. This is a band who don’t comfortably fit into any pigeonhole, or conform to any expectations.
London based Khaidian was formed by guitarist/programmer, John Tyrell (ex-Interlock) and bassist, Joseph Perumal (ex-Mortad). The band found themselves joined by singer, Andy Hutton (ex-Dragnerve, ex-Stoopi) and drummer, Paul Fowler (ex-Dragnerve) in 2014, and commenced writing and recording their debut album. As the band wrote, they also played successful shows with Kill II This, Psychostick and Cypher 16.
The band continued to gather acclaim as Progress Wrestling adopted a demo version of ‘Trigger the Landslide’ for their live shows and DVD menu, as well as consistently appearing in the Reverbnation top 10 UK Metal bands.
The entire album was DIY recorded and mixed, with mastering duties given to the legendary Tim Turan (Marilyn Manson, Emperor, Devin Townsend, Lamb of God, Thin Lizzy, You Me At Six).
John set about creating videos for each of the songs on Penumbra, using film, animation and practical effects to develop a unique look for each song. From the raw performance of “Pearls Before Swine” to the genre breaking 360 degree CG performance video of “Dramatic Professions of Martyrdom”, each video shows a string to Khaidian’s bow.
Initially expecting to release their debut album in 2016, the bottom fell out of the band as Paul left. Khaidian, an album ready to release, found themselves in line-up hell. A year of frantically trying to fill Paul’s boots commenced, without any luck.
In mid 2018 however, long time friend, Kris Perrin (Gravil, ex-One Fell Down, Faux Fighters) immediately joined Khaidian on drums, after the announcement of Gravil’s hiatus. Perrin, previously ran with Andy in 90’s “flicknife metal” band Stoopi and filled in for Paul during at their Kill II This show in London.
Khaidian, stronger than ever, will be releasing their debut in November 2018. The unique range of styles, skills and influences will be on display throughout UK and European shows, backed up by a synchronised video projection screen.
